Hi-a-tus, time has passed

Amazing thing “time”. How much of it is wasted, and spent on frivolous things, spent on objects, and trivia that do not define nor make us who we are.

I have been in a transitory state since I graduated college. I work at a 9-5, and I am not content with my contribution to society. I was addicted to Facebook and networks that fed my ego, an ego that had no business seeking inflation.

In my hiatus from Tumblr life permitted me to have fallen in the depths of love with people who have now become my family. I made relationships outside of the world wide web (tangibility and warmth at it’s finest). I lost track for a moment who I am but I am loving this journey of rediscovery. So much possibility and so much to be grateful for.

In a world of social networking and tech-connectivity it is astounding we know who we are or do we? Perhaps there is no healthy self perception any more. What exists is what is portrayed via online self-PR.

Why be someone that lives in a virtual reality, when you can be fascinating and fascinated with life by simply shutting off all electronics and connecting from within. I am happy I have taken my break, and I am ready to write-write for me and write for the sake of writing, with no motive or desire to be followed or famed. No hashtags no tags no nothing… Just me.

I am Simply Saba-, and this is for me.

February and the Fervor of L.O.V.E

In the spirit of things let me acknowledge the month of amour.

February is for the lovers I hear, to celebrate L.O.V.E

                                           Losing

                                       Ourselves in the

                                       Vastness of

                                       Eternity with another.

***L.O.V.E****

Rumi the great poet, writes:

This is love: to fly toward a secret sky,

to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.

First, to let go of live.

In the end, to take a step without feet;

to regard this world as invisible,

and to disregard what appears to be the self.

Heart, I said, what a gift it has been

to enter this circle of lovers,

to see beyond seeing itself,

to reach and feel within the breast.

November is for The New

Sometimes I feel I am a redundant writer, that speaks from emotion and probably makes her former English professors cringe at these grammatical errors. I am going to write once more about this notion of reinvention, making significant changes in one’s life that literally highlights our best attributes and gives us a great sense of ambition to make our mark in this world, not as an individual but one who is a conscious collective contributor.

Upon finding out there is 7000000000 (7 billion that’s right) people on this Earth, I had to really come to terms with a fact-THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND ME/YOU. In this humbling proclamation of insignificance, I find really the number of people on this planet irrelevant in how we as individuals, communities and societies function. We do not consider the existence of  life beyond ourselves, that we are members of a greater nation, a global village—we are humanity. As humans, we love, we cry, we bleed, we fart (well not me of course :P) we make lame jokes and we do things we regret, and with this said, I must make the choice to take time in being a better person, in order to be selfless enough to want to sincerely open my heart to being hopeful that yes, this world can be better. What do I mean by better? Making an effort to be environmentally conscious-don’t waste, we have one planet y’all let’s not ruin it, and let’s support efforts that are pro-sustainability (for example eliminating water bottles, and using re-usable ones). Building communities, and embracing and accepting not tolerating diversity. We like to think that racism no longer exists, but it does, be it within day to day interactions, or in segregated communities via systematic racism—it’s 2011, can we accept the fact that we come in many colors, our hair is different and we do not need to look identical, there is no right way or wrong way to look (God does not make mistakes). Ask yourself if your friends are mirror images of you? Have you ever explored a culture not like your own? When we accept the beauty of diversity, we see the beauty within humanity, where there is no aliens we are all people.

If your a mother, or a father love your children, and be open to the fact that they might be different from you. God only knows how much value really a parent has in the upbringing of a child, please do us a favor and hug your child, tell them they are beautiful, that they matter and that others matter too, so that they can pay that love they received forward.

For all the lovebirds out there, I just want to say commitment is the most sacred promise two people can have, be sincere and remember the fact that we have rights as individuals, and its okay to bicker sometimes, and to give yourself time to know who you are before you can offer yourself wholeheartedly to someone else. Real love is about compromise and devotion, it is about being selfless…

November is the month for new-because we need to make changes to grow as humanity, to let our concern for one another surpass 70000000.

To my sisters- Do not burden yourself with illustrious desires to look like someone you are not, rather know you are a Queen, embrace and own it and be fierce all on your own.

To my Brothers- Rise, and take your places as men. See beneath the shallow surface of the female counter part, go beyond her physical and see her for the women she is and treat your sisters with care and delicacy, because someday they too will be raising a man.

To our body: “This human form needs sustenance” as Thor says, that does not mean indulgence. Do things to feel better, feel healthier. This is SO not in that lose weight feel great BS, nah-if your thick cool, if your skinny cool…my point is, we have one vessel and it needs maintenance. Go running, camping, hiking phsst if your not into all that, take the stairs, really, if your limbs work you don’t need the escalator, or an elevator…walk it out! Drink water and step away from the carbonated drinks. Everything in moderation, and most importantly look at yourself naked and love what you see, because if you don’t im sure no one else will..just sayin’…

To our Mind: (Beside reading my blog :) What was the last book you read, (BOOK not magazine!)? I feel my generation will be well versed in Facebook status, not in literature. There is so many amazing books out there to fill your mind with. READ, and learn. Seek knowledge that makes you think and be critical. Beside reading, make art or see art, turn off the television and all gadgets and soak up all the amazing resources at your finger tips.

To our spirit: I don’t know what those of you whom read this believe in, but I am a Muslim and I believe in God. I am not preachy nor am I the most orthodox person, but I do believe there needs to be a spiritual awakening, a connection with the Most High that is personal, not for the public, not for holiday season and not for arrogance and manipulation of institutionalized religion. Pray, meditate and ask God for guidance, for clarity. Pray for others, and pray for a purification of the heart, our most tender organ.  Be sincere and know that this world too will pass, and the dust is our final bed, so let’s live like every day is our last, and let us pass in a good state.

We have far too little time left of 2011, and I am taking a stand to love myself so I can love others, to nourish my mind, body and soul and to be very much aware of the fact that the world does not revolve around me, that I am a member of a global village and I will do my part to build bridges, so let’s meet halfway and embrace this “new” November.

Always with Love, Respect, and Peace

The New.

Vogue Magazine featuring brilliant actress Tilda Swinton-as she drapes a Palestinian scarf. This photo in the November 2011 issue is progressive and amazing to me, the image, a simple one, does not have the glitz and glamour of high fashion yet it speaks volumes.
